What is Therapeutic Cloning?

Therapeutic cloning is a used as a form of rehabilitation for limbs or other body parts affected by disease.   It is unlike reproductive cloning which forms around the goal of cloning a whole new individual.

 How does Therapeutic Cloning work?

Therapeutic cloning works when a patient’s cell, typically a skin cell’s nucleus is put in a fertilized egg whose nucleus has been removed.  A blastocyst forms as the egg begins to divide.  Stem cells are then removed from the blastocyst and encouraged to grow cells which will eventually form a tissue.
